DESCRIPTION:
German, for the Swedish market, large gilt wood cartel clock by Lenzkirch [unsigned, but with appropriate markings], C.1900, 8-day bell strike, serial # 1Million -- 214394.
CONDITION:
this clock has an interesting history; comes with a letter from Ebba Bestgen, describing ownership and export to US. Best part is a separate note alleging it was given by King Gustav III to the Ekstrom family around 1700 {2 hundred years before it was made}. We only print this here to remind us all how easily a little family tale gets remembered as fact. Other examples of this Swedish style can be found in the book: "150 Jahre Lenzkircher Uhren", page 162, different motif & detail, but same size & dial. In addition to the serial number, which is done is typeface that matches Lenzkirch literature, well made mov't bears the number "22" just below center of the back plate; most Lenzkirch spring movements bear a number in the 20's. There is some missing gesso and gilding. Dial, pendulum and hands are original. Ht 36" [90cm]
